LOCAL HERO CAMERA CREW WITH BURT LANCASTER

Local hero camera crew with Burt Lancaster

I once had a moustache and worked on the early films of Bill Forsyth, including That Sinking Feeling, Gregory’s Girl, Comfort and Joy, and the truly magical Local Hero, one of my best ever experiences in this business.

I wasn’t alone and I think it shows on the screen…

ERIC CLAPTON: FOREVER MAN

A memorable 1980s music video for me. A 35mm camera “ballet” directed by Godley and Creme (of 10cc fame) and lit by a young Roger Deakins. I was one of the 2 Steadicam Operators (The other was Pete Cavaciuti) so I’m in it along with about 8 other camera crews. Also despite lengthy rehearsal time the Titan Crane still managed to wipe out one of the dolly-mounted Golden Panaflex cameras. I captured this on Steadicam and the shot was used. At 2’44” you can clearly see the accident….the late James Ainslie (1st a/c) holding his head in horror and Roger Deakins running away in search of a more fulfilling career.
